Mad River Valley Walk & Roll


Friday, 5/10

Family Bike & Trike Sale DROP-OFF
2:30-7:00 pm, Waitsfield Elementary School
On Friday afternoon, bring your bikes to sell. The sale starts Saturday at 9:00 am [see below].

Free bicycle safety checks will be available at the Friday Drop-Off, as well as at the Sale, so bring along all your children's bikes, including those you plan to keep. Safety checks will include an overall inspection of shifters, chains, brakes, tire inflation, and fit.

Saturday, 5/11

The Mad Triathlon
9:00 am, Sugarbush’s Lincoln Peak base area

5th Annual Family Bike & Trike Sale
9:00 am-4:00 pm, Waitsfield Elementary School
Need a bike? Have a bike to offer? This is the event for you. Drop off on Friday, 5:00-7:00 pm. [More Info]

Blueberry Lake Beginner-Intermediate Mountain Bike Ride
11:00 am, Parking area at Blueberry Lake (south of the dam on Plunkton Road)
Join Mad River Riders leader John Atkinson for a fun spin on the new Blueberry Lake network. We will tour the trails and learn some riding skills along the way. Helmets required, eye protection, gloves and other protection recommended. 1.5 hours, weather and conditions permitting. Ages 6 and up.

Monday - Friday, 5/13-5/17

"Way to Go" Commuter Challenge
It’s Go Time!  Have you signed up for Way to Go week? New this year, businesses can sign up to challenge another business to a Carbon Throw-Down!  Also new is the carpool matching software, ZIMRIDE that allows drivers to set a price per seat and arrange a meet up time and location online. Sign up today at http://www.waytogovt.org, challenge another business, and help spread the word!

Bike-to-Work and Bike-to-School!
Each Valley elementary school will have bike and walk events planned, and everyone else can make plans to bike, walk or car-pool to work. Check with your school for details.
Warren: Bike Rodeo on Tuesday 5/14, Bike To School on Friday 5/17
Waitsfield: Bike or Walk To School EVERY day!
Moretown: Bike To School on Friday 5/17
Fayston: Walk To School on Friday 5/17

Tuesday, 5/14

Mill Brook Trail Hike
8:00 am, Mad River Path Parking Lot on German Flats Road across from Fayston Elementary School
Join MRPA board member Dori Ross for a 1-1.5 hour vigorous hike on the Mill Brook Trail. Waterproof footwear is advisable.

Wednesday, 5/15

Moms On Bikes Mountain Bike Ride
6:00 pm, Blueberry Lake Trails
The MOB invites women to join a 1-1.5 hour beginner/intermediate mountain bike ride on the new trails created by the Mad River Riders, VBMA and USFS. Mild climbing, good downhill flow, not too technical. Meet on Plunkton Road just south of the dam. Remember helmets and water. Call 496-4940 for more info.

Thursday, 5/16

Mad Birders Bird Walk
7:30-9:00 am, Big Picture Theater
Bird the boardwalk that is part of the Mad River Path. No experience or equipment required. The Mad Birders will have loaner binoculars available.  The boardwalk is wheelchair accessible – disabled birders are welcome.

Mad River Riders Ride
5:30-7:00 pm, Stark Mountain Bike Works
The Mad River Riders will include a special beginner ride along with their regular Thursday evening ride series. "Regulars" know what to expect and can help you pick the appropriate ride. New riders can join Peter Oliver for a 1.5 hour beginner ride on local roads.

Friday, 5/17

Bike-to-Work and Bike-to-School!
Friday is National Bike To Work Day! Each Valley town has bike and walk events planned (see above), and everyone else can make plans to bike, walk or car-pool to work.

West Greenway Walk
8:00 am, Greenway parking lot at Meadow Road
Join MRPA Board member Laura Brines for a 2 mile out-and-back walk along the West Greenway to the Gazebo by the Mad River. Good walking shoes recommended.

Saturday, 5/18

Farmers' Market
8:00 am-1:00 pm, Waitsfield Green
Visit the Valley Walk & Roll tent at the Farmers' Market opening day.

Walk or Bike to the Bridge Street Art Fair
2:00-8:00 pm, Bridge Street, Waitsfield
Use your body’s motor power to get yourself to the Bridge Street Art Fair and avoid the hassle of parking! Additional traffic safety and crossing guards will help keep us safe. Bike Parade to the Bridge Street Art Fair
2:00 pm, leaves from Waitsfield School (park cars at Waitsfield Telecom)
Join the parade to celebrate the culmination of the Walk & Roll Festival week. Bikers will ride from the Waitsfield School to the Bridge Street Art Fair. Decorations, costumes and silliness encouraged! Contact: Nora at nmcdonough@waitsfieldschool.org for more information or to help out!
