May 13 - 22, 2011

Come join the Mad River Valley Walk n' Roll festival! Celebrate biking and walking with a week full of activities for the whole family. There will be a full slate of events to encourage healthy, fun alternatives to riding in your car.

Bike to the farmer's market, bike to school, ride one of the free Mad Bikes available at racks around town, join a bird walk. These and many more events are scheduled to help get you on your feet or on two wheels.

Whatever your inclination, you'll be in good company as we walk, ride, and roll through the Valley!

3rd Annual Family Bike & Trike Sale

Sale – Saturday, May 14, 9am-4pm
Drop off – Friday, May 13, 3pm-7pm
Waitsfield Elem
entary School

Everybody needs a bike!  The third annual Family Bike & Trike Sale aims to get bicycles for families at reasonable prices and to promote outdoor activity. The Bike & Trike Sale, modeled after the legendary Ski and Skate Sale, will be held at the Waitsfield Elementary School on Saturday, May 14 from 9am to 4pm. Buy a “new” bike in time to take part in the Valley Walk & Roll Festival events, or sell one you’ve outgrown to someone who will use it. Lots of used kids’ bikes!

Bicycles in good working condition can be dropped off on Friday, May 13, from 3-7 pm. A free bike safety check* will be available at the drop off, courtesy of our local bike shops – Stark Mountain (Waitsfield) and Green Mountain Bikes (Rochester).

Proceeds from the Family Bike & Trike Sale will benefit the Mad River Valley Health Center. When a bike sells, 80% of the sale price goes to the seller and 20% goes to MRVHC to support health education programs in the community. Bikes may also be donated to MRVHC for inclusion in the sale.

For more information about the Bike Swap, contact Sue Frechette (
sue@valleywalkandroll.com) or Liz Weller (liz@valleywalkandroll.com).

*Free bicycle safety checks and helmet fittings will be available this year (at both the Drop-Off and the Sale!), so also bring along all your children's bikes, including those you plan to keep, as well as helmets. Bicycle safety check will include an overall inspection (shifters, chains) as well as brakes, tire inflation, and fit (seat height). In case you missed your school's helmet order, helmets will also be available for purchase. Helmets should be replaced after five years of use, or earlier in the event of an accident.
